Beauty Sleep

Did you know that “beauty sleep" is not just a figure of speech?

While you sleep your skin repairs and rejuvenates itself. New skin cells grow and replace older cells. A lack of sleep can disrupt that process not to mention increase our stress levels which can further deprive our skin. Being tired on a regular basis can even cause premature aging and worsen skin conditions like acne.

A study in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology (2001), showed that women deprived of sleep have a disturbed skin-barrier function, greater water loss from the skin and a far higher level of inflammatory chemicals in circulation. Over time, these inflammatory chemicals take a toll on both the outer epidermal layers and the deeper dermal structures. Which explains why lack of sleep can make you look ten years older.

But now for the age old question: How does one sleep better?

Forget internet shopping and playing games on your phone or iPad in bed. Try creating the ideal sleep environment; a clean & organized bedroom, soothing sounds, aromatherapy candles or essential oils. Dabbing Lavender essential oil to your pressure points, bottom of feet or pillowcase for a more soundly sleep and will help you feel more energetic the next morning. My nighttime ritual is Lavender Vanilla scented Body Butter from Sodeë Naturals. Apply to hands and feet, the scent is very relaxing and bonus - you wake up with incredibly soft skin.

I'm sure many of you, like me, find yourself at times not getting a full nights sleep, a great night cream maximizes the benefits of any amount of sleep. Using Sodeë's Skin Nourishing Night Cream moisturizes skin during sleep, improves skin tone and texture, firms saggy skin,  minimize wrinkles and lines.

So it's not an old wives tale so get a good night sleep. Everyone will notice!
Hey, they don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing. J
